Jane Maritz to lead organization as Interim Executive Director

Roseburg, Ore (June 23, 2024) – Sunrise Enterprises, a nonprofit agency dedicated to providing employment services to adults with disabilities in Douglas County since 1969, is pleased to announce the appointment of Jane Maritz as Interim Executive Director.

This leadership transition follows the recent resignation of Jim Wilson, who served as CEO for the past two years. During his tenure, Wilson established strong community connections and collaborated with the leadership team to develop financially sustainable business models, with the goal of ensuring the long-term viability of Sunrise’s mission.

Maritz, who joined Sunrise’s leadership team for the first time in 2004, brings continuity to the Executive role. As someone with a disability, Maritz immediately connected to Sunrise’s work in breaking down the barriers people with disabilities face in the workplace. She holds BBA and MBA degrees with a focus in nonprofit and healthcare management. In addition to her experience as CFO for Sunrise, Maritz has worked with organizations across the US and Africa.

In her new role, Maritz expressed confidence in the organization’s future. “Wilson’s leadership has strongly positioned Sunrise with multiple pathways forward. With our experienced leadership team and the unwavering support of our community, Sunrise’s mission to support people with disabilities will continue to thrive well beyond our 55-year legacy in Douglas County.”

Board President Barry Robinson shared, “The Board of Directors greatly appreciates all the hard work and excellent leadership by Jim Wilson over the past couple years. Jim came to Sunrise at a critical time in our great history. Through Jim’s leadership and his development of our management teams, Sunrise is poised to continue its outstanding service to our community. When Jim came to us, we knew he was the right person at the right time. Jim was not looking for a job; he was looking for a mission. Due to Jim, our management teams, and our dedicated employees, Sunrise’s mission has never been stronger, and we look forward to many more wonderful years ahead.”

###

Sunrise Enterprises is excited to announce our Tiny Homes Project, a groundbreaking initiative that combines innovation and compassion to address homelessness in our community.

Our mission for this new expansion is to build high-quality, affordable tiny homes that provide job skills development for individuals with disabilities and offer a solution to the homelessness crisis. With a $20,000 grant from SourceAmerica, we’ve launched this project to make a real impact.

Our tiny homes feature essential amenities like a shower, toilet, and sink, as well as energy-efficient insulation and durable construction. We’re not aiming for identical units but instead customized solutions to meet unique needs.

Jim Wilson, CEO of Sunrise Enterprises, passionately states, “It helps train Sunrise clients and is a way to help the homeless community here.” This project serves a dual purpose, offering vital skills while addressing homelessness.

We invite the community to join us at our wood mill facility, 3443 Carnes Rd. on October 27th from 1-3 p.m. to witness the impact we’re making and explore how you can get involved.

Sunrise Enterprises is actively seeking partnerships with organizations and individuals who share our passion for tackling homelessness. Together, we can make a difference and build a brighter future for all. For more information or to join our cause, please call 541-673-0195
