Sunrise’s Day Support Activities program provides a place for 39 individuals with disabilities in Douglas County to enjoy the amenities and events our community offers and a safe and inclusive place to learn life skills and find new passions and hobbies they have yet to explore.

One of our favorite places to spend the day is Wildlife Safari in Winston, Oregon!

Wildlife Safari, with its unique blend of accessibility, sensory engagement, and educational opportunities, stands out as an ideal outing for individuals participating in Sunrise’s Day Support Program.

Here are some of the reasons why Sunrise loves the safari:

Accessibility for All

Wildlife Safari goes above and beyond to ensure its facilities are accessible to individuals with disabilities. The park has wheelchair ramps, paved pathways, and wide doorways to accommodate mobility aids, allowing visitors to move freely around the park. Additionally, designated accessible parking spots make it easier for those with mobility challenges to access the park.

Interactive and Hands-On Experiences

Wildlife Safari offers a range of interactive and hands-on experiences that cater to the diverse needs and interests of individuals of all abilities. The petting zoo, with its gentle and friendly animals, provides a safe space for tactile exploration and animal interaction. This hands-on experience fosters a sense of connection and allows individuals to engage with the animals meaningfully.

Inclusive Train Rides

The train ride at Wildlife Safari is an inclusive activity that enables individuals with mobility challenges to explore the park’s vast landscapes and observe the wildlife up close. The train is designed to accommodate wheelchairs and provides ample space for individuals to enjoy the journey comfortably. This inclusive transportation option ensures that everyone can participate and enjoy the scenic tour.

Supportive Staff

One of the most valuable aspects of Wildlife Safari is the kind and supportive staff. The park’s employees undergo training to understand better and cater to the unique needs of individuals with a variety of disabilities. Their kindness, patience, and willingness to assist create a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued and included. From helping in animal interactions to offering guidance throughout the park, the staff ensures that everyone’s visit is exceptional.

At Wildlife Safari, everyone involved in Sunrise’s Day Support program can embark on a memorable journey, forging connections with nature, animals, and fellow visitors while creating cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
